James Graham papers, 1860-1883.

Official papers consist of duplicate certificates of deposit of United States moneys obtained from the sales of ships, tackle, cargo, and other goods condemned as prizes of war by the admiralty proceedings in the District Court during the Civil War; receipts for bank deposits as the result of such sales; and 14 original deposit certificates of the Assistant to the United States Treasurer at New Orleans. The certificates list their numbers, dates, names of the marshals who handled them, amounts deposited to the credit of the Treasurer of the United States, titles and docket numbers of the prize cases, names of the courts, and signatures of the assistant treasurer. Business papers include copies of notarial records and canceled checks.
